The Scene
Tucked along Belden Place's pedestrian-only alley, this charming trattoria radiates the feel of a romantic Venetian hideaway. Tourists and locals alike jovially cram outdoor tables, while strings of small white lights twinkle overhead. Indoors, the main dining room, bracketed by red- and gold-striped banquettes and intimate tables, makes an earnest attempt at authenticity with artificially distressed walls in muted shades of orange. A second dining space in the wine cellar accommodates overflow. Servers, though not particularly well-versed in the offerings, are friendly and welcoming.
The Food
The menu is populated with Old World favorites, like arugula salad with thick slabs of fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and paper-thin slices of prosciutto, and an exquisite, pepper-crusted rib eye, steeped in a full-bodied Barolo wine sauce and stunningly plated over a bed of spinach with a teepee of ultra-skinny fries on top. The signature tiramisu is intense yet fluffy, but is outshined by the velvety espresso creme brulee.

I've been eating in Cafe Tiramisu for over 10 years, whenever I get to San Francisco. Great food, attentive but not stuffy wait staff. Medium priced, not expensive, and definitely worth it. Can be crowded and a little noisy, but who cares, since its a great restaurant. I recommend it to everyone I know who is going to SF, and that's with a money back guarantee. It's as good as anything you will find in Italy.

I?ve been here before and each time, I have had a very pleasant dining experience. On top of that, did you know this restaurant is teaming up with StreetSmart4kids? It?s actually really cool what they?re doing. I just heard about how SS4K is a nonprofit organization that helps underprivileged teens stay healthy. They are running their ?Dine Out and Donate? campaign here (as well as approx. 70 other restaurants in SF) during October and early November. After having a fabulous dining experience, just fill out the donation form when paying the check (minimum donation $3). This is perfect for people like me, who love to eat out all the time and also like to give back to the community. Check it out for yourself on the StreetSmart4Kids website!

I went to dinner the other night with a friend and ate at this amazing retaurant. It felt as if we were in Europe! We ate outside (next to a heater, as the famous San Francisco Fog was rolling in!) I had a wonderful seafood dish, topped off by the restaurants famous dessert Tiramisu (I figured any restaurant that names itself after the dessert has got to be good, well not only was it good it was GREAT!) We had made reservations on line on "open table" and we were seated almost immediately after arriving at the restaurant. Our waiter was from Italy and that added further charm to our dining experience! He was charming, cute(Yes I flirted a little!) and was very attentive to our needs. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for an authentic Italian dining experience. They offer exotic dishes (not your typical Eggplant Parmegan or Spaghetti and meatballs) but REAL northern Italian dishes! Wonderful! I will be back!
