The Mission's favorite neighborhood salon, art gallery, community bulletin board...and, not incidentally, used bookstore..
If you overhear an interesting conversation or a heated debate in Adobe, go ahead and join in. Staff and customers use the shop as their communal sitting room, and it's typical to find folks kibitzing, reading, checking out the art exhibits in the tiny back gallery or just lounging on one of the big sofas stroking Leo, the store's mellow orange cat. There are books everywhere: on shelves, on the floor, on chairs, on the front desk, stacked on the broken old jukebox in the back. Most titles seem well read and a bit funky, but the prices are fair and the selection extensive. Adobe has strong holdings in fine art, drama, literary criticism, history, political science, philosophy, gay and lesbian issues and foreign literature. There are some rarities under glass up front.
