Back in the day, this was a live-music venue where the likes of Pavement played to a packed house. The bands are long gone, but the rock-and-roll vibe remains. What used to be a stage now holds dartboards and pinball machines, while two large pool tables sit in the main room flanked by padded booths. This is a basic bar frequented by both Mission locals and bridge and tunnelers, chill and quiet on school nights, crowded and raucous on weekends. It's the kind of place patrons can bring their dogs to in the afternoon and stick around to get drunk with their friends at night. The jukebox plays…

Best Bar in the Mission

by dinsf415 at Citysearch

It's a home away from home... I love this place. Everyone that works here rocks! Fridays can be too crowed when all the marina folk try to slum it in the mission.

  • Pros: Cheap Drinks, great selection of beers, bartenders are awesome
  • Cons: when all the marina folk show up.

Go for the bartenders

by unsung_antihero at Citysearch

The bartenders are the reason why I keep going back to Kilowatt. They are interesting people who take their time to talk to you.

It gets too crowded on Saturdays, but it's a great place to go during the week; it's never dead. You can find all kinds of people there, from middle-aged tattooed guys to preppy college graduates. It's my favorite place in the city.

  • Pros: Staff
