I go mostly because I love the Margaritas there. The staff is usually very courteous and efficient but we have had the bad luck of interacting a few times with the two sisters, whom I have been told, are the owners. Sometimes friendly, sometimes rude, usually intrusive. Just kind of weird interaction. It is usually the restaurant owners who make sure the staff is consistant and professional isn't it? Not here. My recommendation... spin by and head to the bar. I have moved on to other Mexican Restaurants with fresher and more healthy fare.Spare you arteries!
Friendliest Margaritas in Town. My guess is 'Traumatic' who had a bad experience here was probably being 'a pill'. My 'ex' and I used to frequent this place quite regularly a few years back and the owners and staff were nothing but over the top pleasant. Literally sweethearts to us all the time. And the atmosphere has been exactly the same the few times I've been back since then. The food is very dinner style oriented and tho' not being the best Mexican I've ever had, none the less hits the spot and was always consistent. In fact, my ex-girlfriend thought their burritos were the best in the city in her opinion! I would recommend this place whole heartedly. Also, even tho' it's South of Market, it's incredibly easy to get to. And their Maggies are killer!
One of the Most Traumatic Restaurant Experiences I've Ever Had.
To be fair, I'll start with what was right; the food was decent, and the drinks were adequate... Thats about it.
I've put up with some really ridiculous things at restaurants, but I feel that the way that my friends and I were treated at this restaurant was absolutely appalling. The staff (especially the manager) was condescending, and antagonistic, we couldn't even enjoy our meal because the manager was harassing us every 10 minutes with some aspect of their stupid policy. And the staff made no secret whatsoever that they were just interested in trying to get as much money as they could out of us (i.e- trying to charge us for people that weren't even there, trying to force our friends to order, etc).
Needless to say, I would not suggest going to this restaurant to anyone, unless I did not like them.
Great Mexican. Everything here is so good and delicious. The portions are huge and the atmosphere is just what I want in a good Mexican place. All the staff are really nice and helpful. Highly recommend it.
Best Enchiladas in Town!. I had the chicken enchiladas and they are delicious. I have been to many Mexican restaurants and the setting, the food and the drinks are perfecto at Don Ramons. Huge portions, of course, and the guac is perfect and fresh. Yummy!
Best Mex in the City.
Don Ramon's has been a staple in my diet for over 25 year's.
Great food at medium prices.
Outstanding tequila selection.
I've tried every dish on the menu - never had a bad meal there.
We can always find parking - a big plus in dining out.
Best tex-mex in the city - best margaritas - full bar - great night out.
Been to all of the "mexican" restaurants in the city. Don Ramon's is by far the best. Margaritas - not overpriced/perfectly made- are great. The enchiladas are by far the best in the city.
Staff is very friendly. Portions are large.
If you're looking for a place to sit and eat good mexican (tex-mex) style food - this is it.
Second runner up - long second - is Tommy's. Food at Don Ramon's is 10x better.
Average.
Mango margarita was yummy, and the refried beans were pretty tasty...but that's about it. Nothing else really stands out. I had the beef tamale. The food was average, the chips and salsa were average, everything else was pretty average.
One ladies' room upstairs is not so wise with two bars going on. The outside of the restaurant can be deceiving as it is very lively inside.
great food in a calm and comfortable atmosphere. the food was excellent, the drinks were great and best of all great friendly service, I would reccomment this place to anyone. prices are okay
Traditional Mexican combination plates and high-octane margaritas are the hallmarks of this SoMa restaurant..
In Short
The front entrance leads through a red-tiled facade into a large dining hall with soaring ceilings and a balcony. High-backed wooden chairs, tables and textured cream walls create a comfortable sit-down dining experience. The chips and cilantro-packed salsa are house-made. Entrees center on traditional combination-plate fare, such as crab enchiladas in lemon green salsa and breaded chili relleno.
