Surprisingly light!. I always thought of german food as heavy meats and sauces but the menu here had a lot of interesting, less heavy options. the restaurant was small and the decor was sparse. The beer menu was vast, but didn't offer any guidance for those who don't speak german. The waitstaff was a bit brusque.

Fine food!. What a great surprise to be invited to Walzwerk by a German friend. There were 10 of us and everyone enjoyed their meal, their beer, the service and the ambience. It was a busy Friday night but we were well taken care of. Thank you Walzwerk.

This hip, pocket-sized Mission eatery puts a modern spin on East German cuisine.. In Short
From the minimalist chic of the dining room to the East German pop records hanging on the bathroom wall, this tiny East German outpost is an embassy of cool. Buoyed by its unfailingly warm service and the smart selection of German beers and wines, the restaurant has become popular with tattooed and pierced Missionites. Entrees include authentic dishes such as pork schnitzel, grilled bratwurst and chicken stuffed with apples and bacon.

Feels like Berlin. Walzwerk is one of our absolute favorite restaurants in SF. We had dinner there last week, and the whole experience was wonderful, reminding me of the time I spent living in Berlin. We find the pseudo-industrial decor provides a comfortably laid back atmosphere. The food is top notch and very authentic. We recommend the marinated beef or stuffed chicken breast. And the beer...outstanding...one of the few places in SF to get some of our favorites (e.g. Schneider Weisse, Weltenburg Winter). Walzwerk is perfect for groups of 2-4. If you're unfamiliar with German cuisine, make Walzwerk the place to try it. Bar none, the best German restaurant in the city, better than Suppenkuche.

A Real Gem!. I'm surprised to read so many reviews criticizing service here -- we were served promptly and courteously. The food was terrific, the prices reasonable, and the staff welcoming and personable. Wunderbar!
