Best bar around.
I can't say enough about Dave's! Such a wonderful bar. I was visiting from the east coast and was looking for nice, chill bar to go to. I was staying at the Westin across the street but wanted to find a more relaxed atmosphere. Dave welcomed me with open arms, very cheap drinks and good music. The locals were very friendly and I had such a great time. I went with two friends who live in San Francisco and they loved it as well. It is hands down my favorite bar in the Bay Area and definitely worth a trip!
A friendly attitude, no-frills vibe, cheap drinks and classic pub grub keep regulars coming back to this happy hour favorite.. In Short With its warm, casual demeanor and unfussy interiors punctuated by a rotating selection of local artists' work, this bar and restaurant feels like a neighborhood hangout despite its location near myriad hotels and office buildings. The crowd is an ever-changing mix of professional types, Giants fans and city visitors seeking a low-key spot for moderately priced drinks and sustenance. Longtime patrons swear by the chili dog and the clam chowder, standouts among the menu of sandwiches, sausages, soups and salads.
my spiritual home.
First set eyes on Dave's in 2004 when on honeymoon (we were staying in The Argent). I'd lost my Dad earlier that year (called Dave) so when I saw this bar across the street I knew I had to try it. I walked in and the juke was playing Frank Sinatra, my dad's favourite, and I knew I was home. Dave's is a great bar for a reflective drink. The locals don't look at you like you have two heads just because you're not a native, you can pass the time of day with them or read a paper or watch sport. That's the beauty of Dave's; you can be yourself. The beers are standard fare but the liquor measures are generous (certainly by UK standards). Food is basic; chowder, dogs, wings etc. but decent enough and cheap. I re-visited San Francisco again in 2007 and invariably ended up spending a couple of hours a day in Dave's - it hadn't changed a bit, long may it remain so.
Typical Dive Bar.
As unpretentious as a dive bar should be. Dave's is great for a round or two with your buddies. It's even better as a place to drown your sorrows alone and not worry about anyone bothering you. It's around the corner from where I live, so of course that's an extra point.
Great neighborhood bar.
Unpretentious and authentic, Dave's feels as if you've walked into your favorite bar as soon as you set foot. A friendly, engaging staff and interesting patrons on occasion make this a comfy, warm place to grab a pint or two after work or a visit to SFMOMA.
