the best fast food indian in town. I used to think naan and curry was the best 'fast food' type indian, but this place is blowing me away. I went there a few years ago and wasn't impressed, but I think they streamlined the menu to a select few items now. The saag paneer is simply the BEST i have EVER had. Hands down, compared to tons of eateries both cheap and expensive (and Michelin starred). Haven't had everything on the menu, but solid grub on the fast and cheap. I still think the shrimp biryani at naan and curry is the best because they put the shrimp in the tandoor and give you a ton.
eh..... bad customer service outweighs moderately tasty.
Alright so the naan is fabulous and the tikka masala is somewhat tasty in comparison to Pakistan, but overall it is not much. I went yesterday night and the setting makes you think of an undersized bare hallway and the service is hardly worth mentioning. It is easy to see how it is only crowded in prime hours.
I was reading some of the reviews, and unfortunately I disagree with one comment that both the two brothers working there are hot. I saw one tall one who was yes, with lighter skin, but that was it. My group of girlfriends at the time had to agree with me. Its good food for the most part.
Rockin Lamb Chops. This is definetly the place to go if you want some good meat or even some vegetables. I went with a group of 4 people, and we ordered 2 chops, the sabzi(mix vegetables), and the chicken tikka masala. The lamb chops were done perfect, tender and everything with just the right amount of salt. The sabzi had all the right vegetables, and the tikka masala is the best i've ever had, and i've had a lot of tikka masala. Believe me, this is the place to go! Why're you still here? GOOO already. lol
A Pakistani restaurant with low prices and heart-of-the-Mission locale..
In Short
This no-frills spot attracts a budget-minded bohemian crowd that can fill the large dining room to capacity. The menu features a mix of traditional Pakistani dishes, such as tandoori-cooked meats, curries and veggie staples. Naan and other breads are homemade and served hot out of the oven throughout the day.
Best naan and Mango Lassi. Cheap! And great food. I always try their specials for their great variety. Their naan is light and not greasy. The mango lassis are sweet and served in a large glass. I've eaten great Indian/Pakistani food here for half the cost of other restaurants. It's the kind of place you almost don't want other people to know about, but I figure the more popular it is the longer it'll be there. When I think about eating near the Roxie, Pakwan is always my first choice.
Deliciously spicey...mmmmmmm.......
Normally I am not one to write reviews, but this place is really one that required my adding my 2¢ to the ether. Wow! This place is truly a find, and the food is awesome. This is the kind of curry house that I would expect to find on Brick Lane in London. We had the vegetable pakora, chicken tikka masala, and the achar gosht, basmati rice, and onion nan. MMMMMMmmmmmm..... The spices have wonderful flavours, ones that add the fire to your mouth in that savoury way where you really feel alive. The design is really simple and works with the overall atmosphere.
This place is truly a find--I am so glad that it is 5 blocks form my house--I already know that this will be one of my regular haunts from now on.

Best Indian Food in SF!. Great Pakistani/Indian, far better than the rest! Not one of the nicer neighborhoods and ugly inside, but worth it for the food.
Authentic!. While I haven't been to Pakistan, Pakwan's food tastes the most like REAL Indian food of anywhere I've been in San Francisco. In particular, I like the fish tandoori (sometimes not on the menu, but they always seem to have it), the various dals and my boyfriend raves about the chicken mahakawana (sp?). We got at least a few times everyone month. Great value and they even let you bring in your own beer and wine! This is awesome food.
