Tips for Chevys Fresh Mex

October 06, 2008

A festive atmosphere, potent margaritas and wallet-friendly prices lure crowds to this popular Mexican chain.. In Short
With friendly servers and goofy gimmicks, Chevys is a big draw for families and groups looking for a fun, affordable night out. A full bar and a dozen different margaritas attract a happy hour crowd, and a tortilla machine is often surrounded by children watching the dough-to-tortilla transformation. Fajitas, a house specialty, are available with nearly a dozen different fillings, from mesquite-grilled chicken to portobello mushrooms and asparagus. Desserts include flan and sopaipillas.

Great Margaritas. Great service, food and Margaritas. The table side prepared Guacamole is terrific and a nice addition to table side service. I have eaten in Chevy's Restaurants from California to Florida and they are always great.

Great margaitas!. I often go to the 3rd street Chevy's for a margarita and their yummy chips and salsa. We always sit at the bar and find the service to be great. Orders are taken, drinking made promptly, and there is always a speedy refill of chips and salsa available.

Pooooor service, but good margaritas. I have tried pretty much every Chevy's in San Francisco, and the service is always always always terrible. Chevy's on 3rd street is no different. I came in with a small group of friends pretty late in the evening. We all ordered margaritas and desserts, and when we got our order, half of it was incorrect. We never received two of our desserts, yet we were still charged for them. The staff began to mop the floors around our table before we even left, which seemed inappropriate - mop water is not something you want to smell while you try to enjoy your food. If they were closing up and wanted us to leave, they could have just brought us our check instead of having us wait 20 minutes for it after we had finished eating

Horrible service. The food was on par with the usual, but the service was absolutely terrible. I watched as our waitress left (end of shift?) before we were done, and failed to inform us. She took our drink orders, no problem. We had to ask for more chips. Her attitude was one of "I hate work and I don't want to be here." After she took our orders, that was the last we saw of her. No "How is everything," no "Can I get you another drink." We watched as she grabbed her backpack and walked out the door. We waited forever until some other guy brought us our bill without asking if we needed something else. Needless to say, the tip was very low...but not to worry, they added a little on by the looks of my credit card statement. Beware.

As Fresh Mex as a chain can get.. Chevy's is a pretty decent place to go for Mex food. I could recommend many other small restaurants that offer a truly authentic cuisine, but for a Chain, it's not half bad. Way better than Acapulco. Food was alright, perhaps a little bland, but nothing a little salt can't fix. The one thing I'll say was that our waiter was pretty slow, and didn't quite get the order right. So the service was kind of bad. Though, it might have been an off night for him. Definitely go if you want a safe bet on dinner.

could use some work. They use too much mix in the margaritas here. It's like drinking a sugary popsicle. The food is fairly average, though, I've had good service every time I've eaten here.

Get over your "chain" issues. Chevy's offers good food and good drinks at a good price. If you didn't know it was a chain, I bet people would feel a lot better about it. Chips are great, service is cheerful, margaritas are strong.
