The St. Boniface complex includes St. Boniface Church, the Friary (housing the Friars of St. Boniface), the St. Anthony Foundation (which provides counseling to residents), and the St. Anthony Dining Room (which provides between 2,000-2,800 meals a day to homeless and impoverished residents). Though the friars may seem an anachronism in the Tenderloin--a neighborhood virtually synonymous with "urban blight"--they've maintained a presence there since 1887, and remain one of the city's major social service and outreach agencies.
