DO NOT GO TO ASHLEE ERIN STAMM.
What do you do when even after you request the front desk staff for a particular stylist, they put you with someone else? What do you when you know your stylist sucks, and it's too late to change to
someone else? Do you just see her go to town with your hair, and give you a look that does absolutely nothing for you? Or do you speak up?
To anyone reading this review, if you have anything but straight, fine hair, DO NOT GO TO ASHLEE ERIN STAMM.
I have thick, curly hair, and its Brazilian straightened which makes it less curly. I specifically requested for Damiano and they put me with Courtney, who had to change last minute, so they put me with the inexperienced Ashlee Erin.
I got there early, and was taken in 10 minutes late. I have had the same haircut for about six years, and I needed a change. I mentioned this to Ashlee, who had no insight as to what to do with my hair. I suggested bangs, she said how about side bangs. Then she suggested I go short, to which I told her, that short hair will just stick up because of the thickness and curls. And she said, oh yeah you're right. Aren't those things that she is supposed to tell me, rather than the other way around? I realized she didn't know what she was doing, so I decided to keep it simple and to go with what I always get. I would have to find another stylist to make her haircut look better anyways. So extremely specific instructions - thin it out, and cut off two inches. Light layers. Basically defining what I had.
I kept looking to make sure she doesn't mess it up. I guess she was conscious of the fact that she didn't know what to do, I basically walked out with an overpriced trim. And she managed to make my hair look poufy, which for anyone that is dealing with curly hair in the rain, it's the ultimate sin. Word of advice Ashlee - bring out the straightening iron.
By the end of it, I was so over my experience that I didn't even bother telling her to straight iron it. On my way out the front desk guy loudly announces that it's $60. My overpriced ridiculous looking trim was $60.
A complete waste of a Saturday afternoon. And a waste of money.
I am sure Oxenrose has many competent stylists, and I'm pretty sure Ashlee can work with easy hair like a men's cut or straight fine hair. But, please don't let someone with curly hair go through another round of an overpriced trim with Ashlee.…
Oxenrose Rocks. Been going to Oxenrose for a few years now, and the place is just terrific. Domiano is the best cutter I've ever met. He just does his sumo with the least amount of fuss. Alyssa is also great as are most of the staff. I wouldn't go anywhere else!…
Best Cut and Color Ever!. Went to Oxenrose and got my cut and color from Brian. LOVE the color! The best color blonde I have ever had. Getting compliments all over the place. Thanks Brian!
if i could give 10 stars i would. After getting literally butchered the day before at another local salon *cough*notoriousforhair*cough* i went to see Brian at Oxenrose. The man can cut hair. The atmosphere, services...all par exellence. I highly recommend this salon and will be returning here to get my hair cut from now on. If Brian leaves rest assured I will follow him to the ends of the earth if necessary. He is a scissors wizard. I am very happy - and I am a stylistphobe - so this is really saying something. My only regret is not going to see Brian first - I could have saved myself some trouble and a lot of money.…
Damiano at Oxenrose. This dude saved me from having to drive to LA or go back to NYC for my hair stuffs. I had been to every kind of sf salon: expensive, hip, underground, vegan punkish....None of the people who did my hair could really grasp what I wanted. They were too much in their particular style box to see that there is a kind of cool chic you achieve when you're comfortable with your look that is just kind of undone. Damiano knows this kind of cool. He can tailor your hair to your essence without making it look like you tried too hard and he's totally humble about it. Keep him in SF! He's threatening to move. ARgh.…
