great hostel and location. This hostel is a real deal and its location is super -- close to everything -- stores, restaurants, the cable car, and nightlife. Highly recommend it.
Designer hostel one block from Union Square..
The Scene
This has to be one of the classiest hostel lobbies in the world. Its vaulted ceiling and designer lighting make it look more like a boutique hotel than a dormitory-style hostel. Across the room from the large reception desk and its inspiring wall-size map of the world is an information desk where guests can ask questions and even meet up for a free guided tour of the city.
The Details
There are 253 beds, and for those that don't want to crash on the bunks, 32 private rooms are available--though much more expensive. The communal kitchen and dining room have plenty of seating and even vending machines for those with less culinary ambition. Although pleasant, the cafeteria ambience with its modest linoleum floors and uncomfortable plastic chairs is a contrast to both the elegant lobby and the cozy meeting room where guests can be found chronicling their holidays on the Internet.
