This 1912 hotel is only a few blocks from bustling Union Square and Chinatown. Near classy Nob Hill and in easy walking distance to the Financial District, the location is convenient, but it does also border the less than glamorous Tenderloin district where you should expect to find an abundance of panhandlers and pawnshops.

The Details
The 25 small "efficiency studios" have a casual decor with utilitarian bookshelves, a small dining table and bright bay windows. The homey ambience is more reminiscent of a family-run B&B than a discount hotel. But with an in-room refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, dishes, silverware, satellite TV, unlimited free local calling, and a coin-operated laundry room in the basement, the value of an extended stay is unbeatable. Further discounted weekly and monthly rates are also available.
