Some of San Francisco's best views, gourmet food and after-dinner dancing.. The Scene
Located on the top floor of the downtown Hilton Hotel, this upscale restaurant-lounge features stunning 20-feet-tall windows with sweeping panoramas of the bay, bridges and beyond. White-clothed tables, a wide bar and a gargantuan skylight enhance the dramatic setting. The gracious service, refreshingly devoid of pretense and attitude, is extremely accommodating to a well-heeled crowd of locals and out-of-towners.

The Food
The ambitious menu features seasonal produce and top-notch ingredients. The simple preparations are the strongest: Dungeness crab cakes, crispy outside and succulent inside, drizzled with remoulade, detonating the delicate briny flavor. Likewise, a cream of labster bisque soup comes alive with cognac and tarragon. There's also rabbit and foie gras galantine accompanied by Asiago cheese. A basic filet mignon is nicely grilled, and a light pomegranate sauce enlivens pistachio-encrusted salmon, perched atop roasted butternutsquash, mushrooms and spinach.

Wonderful View. My wife & I had dinner here last night celebrating our anniiversary. The view was spectacular and we were graced with a beautiful sunset. Food was certainly better than okay but just as certainly not superb. As previous reviews have mentioned, you're paying for the view here. We knew that going in; even so, $175 for 2, with no alcohol at all, seems a bit steep for a meal significantly less than stellar. The service also appeared to be iffy at best. Our service was okay but the tables near us had several issues throughout the evening that seemed to take an inordinate amount of time to resolve. I had the crab cake as an appetizer; pretty good but not the best I've had. My wife had the tuna tartare; she was very happy with it. My lamp chops were very nice & prepared just right. My wife had the prime rib; it was very rare as she wanted but she indicated there wasn't a lot of flavor to it. The tiramisu desert was wonderful. We also got the cheese & fruit platter to bring back to our room -- big mistake; it was by far the worst $16.00 dish I've ever had.

caviar, caviar. If you like caviar, this restaurant offers a caviar bar on sunday. The buffet has a wide variation, sure to please the most finicky eater. We were invited here for a birthday party. It is pricey, 65 dollars per person, but well worth it.

An evening to remember.... Having looked at all the negative comments, we were hesitant to come to this restaurant, but it was highly recommended by an airline attendant. So we came, with mixed expectations. We were overwhelmed by the view when we walked in!! We were prompted seated by the hostess at a window table. The service was very attentive, the staff was very friendly. The crabcake was superb, the salad with peaches was very refreshing, a nice summer item. The halibut was fresh, moist. The steak was cooked to perfection. After finding out it was our anniversary, the manager, Charlie, sent us a complimentary dessert. The tiramisu was just delicious. We highly recommend this hidden gem.

Go for a view somewhere else. I was very disappointed with this restaurant the first time I went, gave it a second chance, and it had not improved at all; they seem to think that, because people come for the view, they don't need to pay attention to anything else. The service is horrendous, which is the main reason I will not go there again. The waiters are not friendly or personable at all, and do not come around to check on you, refill water, see if you need anything, etc. It was difficult to get their attention, and when we did finally flag them down for another glass of wine, it took about 20 minutes and asking twice to get it. The food is mediocre-- tasty, but not imaginative, and nothing special. The atmosphere is nothing special, either-- no personality, not warm, needs serious updating. Sure, the view is great, but if that's what you're looking for, have dinner someplace else and get a view from the Starlight room, Coit Tower, or a myriad of other places. With the horrible service, cheesy atmosphere, and mediocre food, this place is not worth the price and certainly does not deserve your business.
