Fun atmosphere!

by baychick at Citysearch

Lori's is a fun, bustling restaurant with a kitchy-cool 50's diner theme. It's always crowded with lively Union Square shoppers. They have a great selection on the menu (your standard American fare - burgers, sandwiches, shakes, etc), and everything I've had has been good but not exceptional. Good sit-down places are hard to find in this busy section of downtown, and this is a great little restaurant to have a cheap and tasty mid-shopping meal. DEFINITELY much better than the Betty Boop diner a few doors down, which I would not recommend

  • Pros: fun vibe, fast service, good food, low pricing
  • Cons: your standard diner experience, food not as good as Mel's

Large portions of tasteless fare

by senatorsmith at Citysearch

Standard diner items offered in an ambience of 50s Americana. Food is tasteless but the portions are large.

Staff is energetic and friendly. Chain has several California locations

  • Pros: Large portions; Americana ambience
  • Cons: Tasteless food; chain heterogeneity

#1 Lori's Diner

by elinar at Citysearch

Not all Lori's Diners are created equal: this one is the best! It has awesome breakfast, awesome burgers, and super-awesome shakes. The nostalgic 1950's style atmosphere is really fun, and the waiters and waitresses wear cute retro uniforms and are friendly and fast. And after your meal, you can play it up with all their retro pinball machines! A fun and delicious time had by all!

And when I say romantic under pros, I mean in a cute going-on-a-date-and-sharing-a-milkshake kind of way.

  • Pros: delicious, good price, friendly

Salmon fillet. Yum.

by sanfrangrrl at Citysearch

Didn't have a good first impression of this Lori's Diner location. My friend and I sat waiting to be seated, only to have staff pass us by, until 5 minutes later, someone approaches us and asks us if we were waiting for a seat. I mean, why else would we be sitting there?? Anyway, she apologized and seated us. I ordered the salmon fillet, which I thought was delicious. You might want to have the basil dressing on the side. Nice atmosphere and I think it's a good place for families with kids. Beware the stairs.

Breakfast Heaven

by dbult at Citysearch

Ate breakfast at Lori's every day for 5 days. Service and food at all three locations in downtown SF were excellent. Food came out 5 minutes after ordered - no lie! Great value.

  • Pros: food, service
