A San Francisco institution, Zuni Cafe does not disappoint! Everything from the atmosphere to the service to the cocktails to the food was perfect. Even the much hyped about roast chicken was phenomenal.

The one, the only, the classic. Oysters are always on point here, as is the famous roast chicken and caesar salad.

One of my favorite spots for a late-night bite, late lunch, or weekend brunch. It's all about the oysters, Caesar salad, gnocchi, and of course the roasted chicken for two (it's spendy, but damn that chicken is superlative).

Attitude ruins food. We met friends at this highly touted cafe for lunch only to have it made less wonderful but a staff full of attitude. They made a decent burger (foccacia, an interesting choice but crumbling when used) and fab chicken but it palled with the sighing indifference of the wait staff. If you want a side of attitude, go to Zuni.

SAVE YOUR MONEY. I've finally experienced first hand the bitter dissapointment that can only come from a famous and expensive restaurant. Loud, crowded with small, ugly uncomfortable tables and chairs. Slow and condecending service. Wine, when you finally get it is served in small, cheap overfilled glasses. White shrimp with chick peas was un-remarkable and the way over priced shoe string potatoes might as well have came from a can. The very dissapointing burger is a small very, very, salty puckish patty on a puffy square of foccacia type bread. the grilled onions were quite good, all three little pieces. It was served with delicious pickled onions, once you picked out the cloves and peppercorns. The famed Gateau Victoire might as well have been chocolate saw dust with a very nice dollop of whipped cream. Stay away.

Decent burgers, but...... The food is adequate, good burgers and fries but I've had just as good elsewhere without the truckload of attitude. The idea that snooty equals classy is SO early 1990...

Without Reproach.... I go to Zuni every 5 or 6 weeks and have nothing but the best things to say. It reminds me of my life in Paris, and I've finally realized that all the people bitching and moaning about the food and the service are just very pedestrian suburbanites or something who have a very small idea of what 'nice' should be. I have never had anything but impeccable service, and the beautifully, simply prepared food is always on target. Please Zuni, don't change a thing!

Great Cheese. Wanted to drop a few lines about my recent Zuni's experience. The food was yummy! You may have sticker shock at first but immediately upon tasting their creations you'll understand the importance of fresh ingredients and wonderful combinations. The entree price drifted out of my mind with the tantalizing aromas. We came in for a drink and ended up staying for the whole evening. I would highly recommend the cheese plate to finish your meal. It's simply exquisite. Yes, Zuni's tight quarters may not impress everyone but it reminded me that neighborly conversation with fellow diners is a lost art. Enjoy!

Zuni disappointment!. After all the talk about this place, and dedicated cookbook, we expected great things on our visit to San Francisco. Instead, we found an extremely limited menu, and tables that were much too close for comfort. We paid $40 for the "famous roasted chicken for 2," that turned out to be a perdue chicken that tasted like supermarket rotisserie -- and we had to wait over an hour for it! Entirely disappointing -- I would recommend staying away from Zuni ... Plenty of much better spots in SF!

I'd do it again. The food and wine were great. Our server was effecient and extremely knowledgable. I'll have to balance the budget before I return, as we racked up quite a bill for two of us. But I'll be back!

Polenta Love. Started with some small oysters - delicious. Moved on to a Caesar - crisp & perfect. Then, shared a bowl of warm creamy polenta love, and then the best Halibut I ever tasted. Ended it all with a rhubarb strawberry crisp and glass of white port. Great scene, nice friendly neighbors, professional service, quality food. HUGE HUGE TIP.....you MUST allow an hour or so prior to dinner to enjoy a beer or champagne at HOTEL Biron right behind Zuni in Rose Alley. Such a romantic launch.

disappointing. I went to Zuni today for lunch because I wanted Mediterranean food. What did I find? Pizza and burgers. The menu was very limited. The food was okay but the service was absolutely horrible. It took forever for someone to wait on us and then another hlf an hour to get a burger. I will not be going back.

Way to go. I popped into Zuni on a Sat. night looking for a quick bite. Unknown to me, the rest. had been written up in 4 articles the past week, all touting its legendary chicken. The service was polite and attentive (esp. since I was alone), but the chicken took even longer than it's usual 45 min. The manager came to apologize and comped my apps and salad, without my having complained first. The meal was nicely paced (or would have been, had the chicken been timely) and I felt comfy. Bravo.
