Editorial Review for Suppenkuche – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
With its white walls, plank floors and long pine tables, this spare space offers a Teutonic sensibility to match its hearty German fare. The expansive front room is dominated by a wooden-topped bar, while the smaller back dining area holds two communal tables. Delicate, vibrantly-hued dragonfly sculptures add a dash of color to the minimalist space. Large, boisterous parties and waiters bustling by with steins of foamy beer create a jovial mood, but the conversational din can be overwhelming.

I made a reservation for my and myy friend's birthday party for 12 people a week in advance and later confirmed it by phone. Everything seemed to be OK, but when we arrived we were told that we had only 2 hours and then had to leave, and nothing could change it. It was a "nice surprise" because we were planning to spend a lot of time with friends, relax and not look at the watch every 10 minutes drinking beer in a hurry. And noone bothered to tell us about this policy before, if we had known beforehand we would have found a much better place. (We've been to this place before on Fridays and Saturdays and we spent there as much time as we wanted!). So my 30th birthday party was spoiled, my guests who arrived later barely had time to order anything. A very dissapointing experience. Avoid this place if you want to spend a good evening.

It was funny how much this place felt like a real German restaurant - there's big wooden bench tables, glass boots of beer, and really good cheese spaetzle. It a great place to go with a bunch of friends you want to drink and eat a hearty meal with. It's almost always full, but thats cool because you can hang at the bar and get one of their many foreign brews.

Pros: Glass boots of beer!

Cons: Super popular - always have to wait for a table
