Amazing service and excellent food

We held our wedding rehearsal dinner at Buon Gustos. We called about a month and a half before to reserve and there was no problem holding the spot. The manager (or head waiter, I forget) helped us select a choice of appetizers and entrees for guests to choose from, along with tiramisu and coffee for dessert. Our party had 30 people and we all fit comfortably into their back room. While taking orders, the waiters made sure to check on special requests for a vegetarian and 2 children. The veggie got a range of meat-free dishes to choose from while the children picked spaghetti and meatballs for half price. I want to say that the parents were very conscious of asking for changes on the menu, but the staff didnt bat an eye. Water glasses and wine carafes were always full. Every one of the staff were friendly, helpful, and seemed to genuinely enjoy making our party a success. As for the food, I was really impressed. So impressed, we went back with my parents-in-laws 2 DAYS later (after the wedding) for our last meal before the honeymoon. What grabbed my attention first was an appetizer of simple tagliatelle with tomato and mushroom sauce. The homemade pasta itself was thin, delicate, and tender and the sauce jumped out at you with a full-flavored, vibrant taste. This is the dish I had as an entree on the second visit. Everyone was impressed. Next, the seafood entree choice of salmon had a similar but chunkier sauce. The house red wine served with dinner paired perfectly with the strong flavors of the food, strong enough to stand up to the acidity, but not harsh or overly tannic. Lovely slices of tiramisu and shots of marsala ended the dinner on an elegant and sweet end. What I didnt know until a couple nights later is that Buon Gustos also makes an excellent minestrone with great depth of flavor unlike every other bland version I have tried. Definitely a quality place.
- Pros: Tender homemade pasta, GOOD minestrone, addictive pasta sauce
- Cons: None

Buon Gustos is a great restaurant in SSF. I had the Pasta with prawns, mushrooms and peas. My husband had the Veal Parmigian, excelent. We used to go to this restaurant over 10 years ago and it is stil just as friendly and delicious. We like the casual feel it has also. Highly recomended!
- Pros: Fresh tastes, Food always hot, Friendly
- Cons: Small get full quick

I don't live in So.SF, but I work and spend a lot of time there. Grand Ave. area can have a nice small-town feel and if you go to some of their restaurants multiple times the staff remember and appreciate you, and Buon Gusto is that type of place. Buon Gusto is a bustling old style Italian restaurant that is consistently good. Menu, albeit fairly standard, has solid veal and chicken dishes, several pastas including popular frutti di mare (sp?). Complimentary after-dinner shot of marsala is a nice touch. Meals are comforting and satisfying. Place is as elegant or casual as you want to make it. There are a lot of things I like about "downtown" SSF and Buon Gusto is one of them.
- Pros: Good hot meals, Nice ambiance
- Cons: Parking
