WHERE NOT TO EAT? Little India, hands
down.
If you want to know how NOT to run a service, then go to Little India.
You get a woman who pronounces the words, "Welcome to Little India" but her expression is clearly, "WTF are you guys here for?"
The samosas had cracked open and oil had seeped into the filling - ugh! Basmati Pilaf was nothing other than Plain Steamed rice. Maah ki daal was dry. There were two miserably oily looking legs of chicken in the Tandoori Chicken - below it there was a foil which had fat which had drained into it and dried up - wonder when it was last changed.
We asked for bowls and were told "this is a buffet" - indeed! We asked for plain naan, the waitress took away the buttered naans with a response, "You should have told me before." Whaat?
The short moustachioed owner whatever came out of the kitchen making excuses saying, "People work hard." Yeah? So if you can't bear the heat, get out of the kitchen! If you can't bear the hard work, go dumpster diving!
We were not served even a glass of water. When he failed to defend the indefensible, he started to say, "if you don't like this place, you..." to which my wife responded - "we were leaving anyway"
All these positive reviews are probably the owner's cronies - don't believe a word of what they say.
I have eaten Indian and non-Indian food in many cities in the US and around the world. This was by far the crappiest service and even crappier food that was on the fare.
In one word - AVOID!
I don't know if there is any better way
to write this. So, I dare you go eat there and tell me if thats the best food you have ever eaten in your whole life :( Frozen Naan (owner- PLEASE don't argue on this, people are smart enough to know that..), Frozen tiny little samosas from Costco that is still cold, and rice-pudding? I said, what the heck was that? yes, it is sweet - thats because it has tons of sugar :( Its supposed to be cooked in milk, all it has is water and sugar..I have noticed at Yelp reviews - the owner likes to jump in to respond, getting very defensive. READ Yelp reviews, you will quickly find out those posted by the "real customers"
Don't imagine walking into this restaurant assuming super-packed, as it is all over Groupon.. Well, nada...! You may notice old-plastic-lids to cover food item "all melted" with heat. Unlike 99% of Indian Restaurant who server buffet in proper chaffing dishes, and serve steaming hot-fresh cooked food, You will experience a bit different style here,
If you read any reviews, anywhere, with "Great Food"? I am speechless, all I can say is, for your life-time experience, just go there yourself. You will then yourself judge those "great food" reviews :-) Even if you don't eat it, just go and see it...tell them you want to see food at Buffet first, Then, right-across is a "Thai" restaurant, in case you change your mind, and yes, they have great - fresh-cooked food. Sorry, no frozen food served at Thai Restaurant..
"Great Food" hehe .. Sorry.. HAHAHA.. wait..LMAO!
Great Indian Food. This place has a great Indin food buffet. I normally don't like buffet's, but in this case it was perfect. You can choose if you want the vegetarian or meat buffet. It's very quiet and quaint at night. The owner is very friendly and took very good care of us. Not to mention he made some great suggestions as to what to try.
Editorial Review. This restaurant serves authentic Indian cuisine including Tandoori Chicken, Lamb Vindaloo, Muttar Paneer and Mango Phirnee.
Rude waitress. The service was very poor. I got 1 piece of tasty bread at the beginning only once. I had a hard time to get a second glass of water but the worst of all was the rudeness of the waitress. The restaurant advertises buffet lunch, all you can eat, but the waitress got upset with me, made faces and raised her voice at me because I was eating too much cabbage. In reality I was eating 1/2 cup of cabbage. Several customers already don't go back for this wierd behaviour of the waitress. Buy the way the restaurant was almost empty but me and another customer. I will not go back for sure.
Great Indian Food!. I've been going to Little India since its opening in Redwood City 15 years ago. What a great place for Indian food! The dishes are always elegantly prepared by owner and chef Manoj Chopra, and the taste is always consistent and delicious! I recommend this place to anyone who loves some adventure and zest in their food.
