In Short
One of Northern California's oldest family-run restaurants, this small Pescadero diner hasn't changed much since its 1894 founding by Frank Duarte. The small wood bar is original as is much of the wood decor. The menu hasn't changed, much either, still featuring traditional diner dishes like burgers, steaks and a daily selection of fresh seafood. The entrees are simply grilled or sauteed, and mashed potatoes are served from an ice cream scooper.

Duarte's cream of green chile soup is delicious, especially when paired with their fresh, still warm sourdough / French bread. The price has soared in the last few years, or I would give 5 stars. Their fried oyster sandwich is also very good. Good atmosphere.

This is pretty much one of my favorite places ever to eat. Their bread, pies, and soups are all homemade. They have pickled things from their garden that's out back. Their Artichoke and Chile soups are amazing. They are even better if you mix them. I would suggest the peach cobbler, the olallaberry pie, and the apple pies. I have always had amazing food and service here!!!

This is a great place to get in out of the coastal chill. Order a cocktail at the bar and stay for lunch or dinner. Portions are large and food is imaginative and good. Plenty of familiar choices, as well as truly original options. They're famous for their artichoke soup and the crab sandwich is muy delish. Great people watching, too. Lots of locals, lots of tourists. Always busy, so you may have to wait, but service is speedy and friendly.
