In Short – Dim sum has made this Hong Kong-based chain restaurant a popular Peninsula lunch spot, while evenings cater to large groups with more conventional Chinese entrees. Dishes include Nanjing crispy-skin roast duck, served in two courses--the crackling skin with pancakes and plum sauce, then the diced meat tucked into lettuce leaves. Dungeness crab can be ordered stir-fried with XO sauce (a house-made mix of chili and dried scallops) or coated with spicy salt.
That's not how Dim Sum is.

It was a good restaurant before but now it is going downhill. Why? I just want to talk about their Dim Sum. We were sitting upstair which is OK, but then we waited and waited for the Dim Sum to be served, guess what, they bought us chinese brocolli, salt & pepper Sea Bass, Beef Chow Fun instead. Oh come on, I wasn't go there for that. Should we just order couple white rice and finished the brocolli and fish instead of Dim Sum. We asked the waitress for Shrimp Dumpling and Siu Mai, she said it will take another 15 mintues. Not good for restaurant which is supposed to server Dim Sum in the morning. I have noticed that many Dim Sum restaurant in bay area have the same problem. However, Fook Yuen really ticked me off. I won't go further with the quality of the food. There are couple better restaurants on either side on the same street.
- Pros: Well, big parking lot on the side
- Cons: don't know how to be a "Dim Sum" place
I know my dim sum

Fook Yuen is by far the best dim sum place in the Bay Area that I know of. If you want impeccable service, go to Tommy Toy's. Otherwise you best grin and bear chinese restaurant service in general. The reason you go to Fook Yuen is for the dim sum. Look around you on Sunday where the wait can be one and half hour long with full of Chinese people? No one waits that long for mediocre service. It is worth the wait for those little morsels of delightful, fresh and tasty dim sum that wakes up your palate.
- Pros: dim sum
- Cons: service, wait time
Horrible service and food
by mgee
we had a horrible experience with service 2 years ago. the waiter took down the order, repeated it to us AND got it wrong. They also refused to give us our money back for that dish. So, 2 years later, figured maybe they'd improve. Went there today, no one was available to seat us. We finally got a table when the place was still empty, and no one even bothered to come over to bring us tea. We had to ask TWO different waiters to get it. The food is not even that good. Compared with other dimsum places like Koi Palace and King's Bistro in Daly City, this place is a complete DUMP. Don't even bother coming here. Unless you want to pay for expensive food that SUCKS with horrible service.
- Cons: expensive, no parking, horrible service
