Not authentic Japanese food.
This is a Korean run restaurant so it really misses on the authenticity. I found the food to be medeocre... i think they cooked the tempura at the wrong temperature because it was a very heavy batter with a hard crunch (it should be light), and the "sushi chef" clearly did not have the requisite 7 years apprenticeship because the vinegar in the rice was off. Perhaps I'm being a bit critical, but I grew up with authentic Japanese food and you can taste the difference. Tokyo Subway is just around the corner on Santa Cruz. and offers great tasting food. The restaurant has been there for years so you know they're doing something right.
Personally, I believe the best restaurants are owned/run by people to truly understand the cuisine. I wouldn't want to eat Korean food made by Japanese since that's not their skill-set.
Fresh Sashimi and Sushi. One of my favorite Japanese restaraunts in the Bay Area. Have dinner here and walk the 20 feet to The Guild for a good independent movie, or across the street to the legendary Kepler's book store.
