Great food and customer service.
I have eaten at this particular Max's Bar & Restaurant a few years ago and loved the food and the great service. I was very pleased on my most recent visit (July 11, 2008) that the service and food were still great.
The restaurant including the restroom facilities were exceptionally clean. The staff was attentive, our food came out in a timely manner; just the way we ordered it and it was delicious!
Very expensive food, bad service and unclean.. This place used to be one of my favorites! for years, I would go at least once a week! In the last 3 or 4 years they have just gone way down hill! I can't believe it!! The food is very expensive and generally rather tasteless (unless, I'm told, you are going for dessert only--although I wouldn't know, I am not a dessert person). The service is very slow and very rude. But the worst part is this place is absolutely filthy. More than once, I have found "foreign objects" in my food. I will not elaborate, because I don't want to be gross. And I have actually said something to the manager a few times and his response was total indifference. So really, really avoid this place. I love the piano and the entertainment, but only drink the liquor. It really didn't used to be like this.
Enormous sandwiches, decadent desserts and a New York sensibility keep this jazzed-up deli bustling..
In Short
Slightly more upscale than its sister locations, this lively East Coast-style restaurant features banquette seating, local artwork and a soothing green and copper palette throughout both the dining room and lounge, where a singing pianist plays nightly. A handful of noshers sit at the fully stocked bar, nibbling on appetizers like popcorn shrimp and stuffed mushrooms, while groups pile into oversized booths and dig into platters of burgers, barbecued ribs and piled-high corn beef and pastrami hoagies on house-baked bread.
Great FOOD. I like Max's - I have dinner about twice a week at the Burlingame Max's -
This is a good place to go for dessert... To be honest I'm not a huge fan of Max's restaurant food in general-- but I will say one things. They have amazing desserts. Terrific desserts that are huge in portion and big in flavor. Basically, my advice is to eat somewhere else but make a stop in to get dessert.
Waiters and waitress can sing..
I never visit any Max's in Bay Area.
Our last night of our trip to San Francisco, we stayed in one hotel near airport.
Then, we see Maxs'.
Well, we had seats right in front of piano. The waiters and waitress there can sing a couple of songs. We like there very much.
Our waiter is great. But the food is so so. The calamari is good, the steak is not special, the drink is ok, and the roast chicken is tasty.
That's all. I will give it a try to Max's in DT next time when I visit San Francisco.
The worst Max's. Of all the Max's in the Bay Area, this is the worst one I've been to. The service is consistently poor, the restaurant itself isn't kept very clean, and I've always had to send something back because they got it wrong (simple stuff, like I wanted it HOT -- not too hard if you wrote it down.) I also agree that the prices have gotten a bit steep for what you get. Too bad...
Too pricey. I have been eating in Max's all over the bay area for years. The food and service is great. The prices have gotten too high. I didn't go for about a month. Last week I went to the Burlingame location and couldn't believe how much the prices have risen. I don't think I'll return until they lower the menu.
