loved the chocolate tart – I was there a week ago with my family for dinner. That was my 4th time dining at Chou Chou and it's still 1 of my favorites. Each of us had a different entree, except my dad and I both had the mussels with frites. I love to dip the bread in the light cream sauce once I'm done with all the mussels. I finished the last few sips using a spoon! My appetizer was foie gras garnished with some baby greens and a sweet balsamic dressing. Yum! But the chocolate tart was what I was really looking forward to, as always. I would go there just for dessert!
Amazing – I wasn't in the mood to drive out to this place from South of Market, but I was very surpised at the quality of the food, service and the fact that they have a PARKING LOT. The pork dish was seriously the best pork I have ever had. This is not an exaggeration. The flat bread appetizer and fruit tart were also incredible.
This place is worth the dinner trip from SOMA/Pac Heights/Mission/etc.
Yummy! – my boyfriend and I went the day before valentine's day, and it was perfect. We went early so it wasn't too crowded, but by the time we left the small tables were packed. Not a big fan of French food, but we were so impressed! The appetizers were delicious, the wine perfectly paired, and the entrees were so yummy. My boyfriend had the seafood casserollete and I had the Risotto. The best part was the Tart! we would go back just for the tarts like everyone said. we had the chocolate mandarine and the rhubarb...mmmmm. The service was prompt and very attentive. we will be going back!
Mon Petit Chou – I loved this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious! I highly recomend all the apetizers on the menu. I had a bad impression of french food, but now I realize you just have to find the right place, and this place has got it going on! I can't wait to go back
Deeeelightful food and very friendly service – My husband and I tried Chouchou randomly and it has now become one of our favorite restaurants in the city. It's cozy and romantic and very reasonably priced sort of rustic French food. Their entrees never cease to amaze with their freshness and good combinations of flavors (like a salad with duck, bacon and figs) or their standard cassolette (French country stew), but the real winner was the tart! Like another reviewer, we were given a slice on the house and it was PHENOMENAL. And now we even reserve a slice when we order our dinners to make sure they still have the flavor we want. The tart is so good, we actually wound up serving it as our wedding cake. The staff at Chouchou is incredibly friendly, but never in the way and parking is a breeze.
This busting French bistro is a welcome addition to the Forest Hills dining wilderness. – The Scene
In this bi-level space with a narrow mezzanine, diners are packed in like sardines, but no one seems to mind. Attractive staff work the dimly lit room, maneuvering tables, pushing aside dangling cylindrical lamps, ensuring that well-heeled locals are having a grand old time.
The simple bistro menu has a few modern twists and turns, like quail slicked with teriyaki glaze, and earthy lentil salad lightened by crab and mango. Steak frites get a sun-dried tomato and olive sauce, and zippy pork tenderloin in mustard sauce is surrounded by a piped mashed potato moat. Strangely, the specialty--cassoulettes--is more intriguing on the page than in its earthenware containers. Lamb stew, with shiitakes and a side of slivered fingerling potatoes, is fine, but the pastry lid is tough and blackened. Don't miss dessert. Wedges of mixed-fruit tart with sour cherries and chocolate-mandarin tarts are the real deal.
La Fete Nationale chez Chou-Chou for Me!! – Unless, I'm in Paris that is. This is one of my favorite restaurants in SF, and after living and working in the SF Food Industry for almost 30 years I think I know what I'm talking about. Had a superb Bastille Day dinner there, Great Onion soup, wonderful mussels w/frites[generous portion and delicious]and my favorite Pork Tenderloin with a sauce moutarde[which I have had several times]..the Apricot Tart made my day, perfect!! Good bottle of Rhone wine, and the friendliest French rest. staff in SF!! You can have that mess in the alley, but for me, Bastille Day in SF will be Chez ChouChou!!
The best new place I've tried all year!!! – A friend reccomended Chou Chou to me a couple of months ago, and i finally made it in last night. First impression-the place is adorable...(as is the staff) Very cozy and fun feeling. They have a great selection of appetizers, we tried several all all were fantastic. I especially loved the escargot served in a sauce to die for and the prawns salad was so tasty we fought over it. For the main course we tried the Filet in port sauce with mashed potatoes, and my friend had the house specialty cassolette of seafood which was very pretty and delicious. The place was jumping...but the service was still thorough. Our waitress wasnt french, but very nice, she even brought us an extra slice of their homemade tarts which are worth going in for by themselves. I will be back as much as I can. All around superb...and a good value!
best french food in town – fantastique food, fantastique service and you want to take the host w you in dog bag.
There are many places in the city to din – The portions were smaller than expected and not anything like what I experienced in France, where the food is wonderful. The entrees were ordinary and their specialties tarts were mediocre. The service was not bad, but our larger party wasnt catered to as attentively as others in the restaurant.
