Tips for Il Cane Rosso

February 23, 2010

Citysearch Editorial Review. Owned by Daniel Patterson of Coi, one of only two chefs in San Francisco to earn two Michelin stars, this lunch and dinner spot feeds Ferry Building foodies a rustic Italian menu of ultra high quality ingredients in a choice waterfront setting.

Organic and sustainable ingredients go into the daily-changing roster of sandwiches, salads, rotisserie meat plates and nightly 3-course prix fixe dinners, which come from a faux-rustic farm-style walk-up counter with piles of fresh veggies and bouquets of just-cut flowers. Harried downtown office types take their lunches to go, but weather permitting, the gorgeous patio right on the bay gives this restaurant one of the more spectacular dining rooms in the city. When ordering, browse the chalkboard list of today's farms instead of today's specials and you'll see that this is very much a restaurant driven by what's available. Fitting, considering the Ferry Building is a Mecca for farmers’ market fans and NorCal’s best artisanal food producers,

Citysearch Editorial Review. Daniel Patterson, whose Michelin-starred, 11-course prix fixe at Coi is out of reach for most, is behind this easy-access Ferry Building lunch spot. Organic and sustainable ingredients go into the daily-changing roster of sandwiches, salads, rotisserie meat plates and sharable snacks, which come from a faux-rustic farm-style walk-up counter with piles of fresh veggies and bouquets of just-cut flowers. Meals can be taken to-go or enjoyed on site, either at a couple of tables indoors, a window-facing bar or a gorgeous patio right on the bay. When ordering, browse the chalkboard list of today's farms instead of today's specials and you'll see that this is very much a restaurant driven by what's available. Suitable, considering the farm-to-table approach is clearly favored with the Ferry Building's other inhabitants as well.
