Tips for Let's Be Frank (Marina)

September 25, 2009

Natural, grass-fed dogs and sausages in the Marina.. Banished from its spot outside the ballpark by a coalition of jealous concession stands, Let's be Frank opened up this ketchup-and-mustard-colored sausage shop for its dog-loving fans. For the uninitiated, the sausages, links, dogs and brats here are made of locally raised grass-fed beef and farm-raised pork from a recipe by Chez Panisse's former meat master, and they contain no nitrates or preservatives. Slap on some of LBF's fixin's--"devil sauce," applewood bacon, grilled onions, 'kraut, relish--and you'll never want to see Oscar Meyer's wieners again. If there's anything that irks about this spot, it's the lack of seating: If the few cramped stools and one table outside are taken, there is no place to gobble your delicious dog with dignity, since there are no benches or even stoops in this part of the Marina. But that's an easy fix; plus, you have to give it to Let's be Frank for even putting hot dogs in the same sentence as dignity and delicious.
