Pirate Cat Cafe, located adjacent to the former underground radio station (it's now internet only) of the same name, is the kind of coffee shop only a total square wouldn't love. With offerings like the famous Bacon Maple Latte, Monkey, the owner, proves that civil disobedience can be as simple as coffee made out of animal fat. The DJs are local, enthusiastic, and sweetly deranged, and customers can watch through the glass as they spin everything from live interviews with local musicians to their favorite outlawed songs, often while singing along to the words. All of the baristas are volunteers, but that doesn't mean they don't make a mean espresso--ask for an Anarchy-ato, which is basically whatever your server is best at, or whatever they feel like making. Subversive, one-of-a-kind and definitely different, this café embodies what is so great about Sna Francisco, or as old-timer DJ Che-X would say, "Ain't I a bad boy for playing this?"
