These folks are very nice and know how to throw down. Go check them out. They have a wide variety of creole cuisine and you will enjoy yourself. 2 thumbs up!!
Tasty Po'Boys and Hearty Gumbo.
I'm not from Louisiana, but I trust this is what a po' boy should be. Simple and delicious. I had the catfish (wanted the soft shell crab, but out of season right now) and it was perfect-- three healthy strips of crispy fried (and not too greasy) catfish fillet with dressing (lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo) on a soft french roll. I threw on some Crystal and it was perfect. Nothing over the top or experimental, just a damn good sandwich.
It was lunch so i got the special, half sandwich and cup of gumbo. Again, I don't know if I've ever had authentic gumbo, but this was the best I've had so far. In the small (but filling) cup I counted 4 shrimp, 2 crawfish, a couple sausage slices, a few lumps of crab meat, chunks of chicken all in a creamy, rich and smoky stew. Again, I needed some more hot sauce, but I'll be damned if i can find a better gumbo in san francisco.
I walked out spending about $14 with a small tip completely satisfied. Not an everyday spot, especially it being way out on san bruno and dwight in the bayview, but i will definitely be back--with friends.
Citysearch Editorial Review. Plenty of restaurants throw the word 'authentic' around, but few take that claim as seriously as Queens. The born-and-bred New Orleans chef/co-owner ships in Louisiana-made chips and soda, gulf-caught shrimp and fish and po-boy baguettes par-baked back in the Cajun motherland, making Queens as 'authentic' as any Cajun food in the the Big Easy itself. While it may be hidden way out in Bayview, the cinnamon-sugar sweet potato fries alone are worth the trip, and you'll find plenty of fellow Cajun connoisseurs who find the pilgrimage worthwhile.
