Chapeau's service is near the top in
the city and more importantly the food is wonderful too. There are so many mid to upper level restaurants in San Francisco that don't seem to give a care about providing the custormer with truly professional service. At Chapeau you feel welcome and taken care of from the very moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave. The menu is wondrful and I've literally never had a bad meal there. You shouldn't have to go to an expensive restaurant to get professional service.

Citysearch Editorial Review.
Often, when a neighborhood restaurant as beloved as Chapeau! makes changes--in the summer of 2009, it ditched its original, cozy living-room-like space for a more traditional restaurant setting a dozen blocks away--regulars gripe. In this case, however, the regulars love the new digs, and Chapeau! is winning many new fans. The food (standards like escargots, foie gras, mussels and fries, all laden with butter and wine) is just as good; the dining room (now bigger but still consistently packed) is just as warm and intimate; the atmosphere (with Chef Phillipe Gardelle greeting each table personally and thanking them for dining there) is just as inviting. Sometimes change can be a sign of rocky times--here, it's simply an evolution.
