Serving three meals a day and acting as a coffeehouse in between, Ironside solves the South Beach area's need for a comfortable cafe and casual eatery. Housed in a former shipbuilding warehouse, the
restaurant's two levels are built from rugged slabs of wood, giving the place a Western saloon vibe--very cool for a cafe, but a little too rough-hewn for a date, at least for a city girl. The action starts early with breakfast empanadas and maple and bacon buns, lunch hour brings porchetta sandwiches and broccoli rabe pizzas, and dinner gets heartier with littleneck clams with chorizo and garlic crumbs or flat-iron steaks; the Four Barrel coffee and espresso is served all day. There are four rotating draft beers, but the on-tap wines--chosen by District sommelier Caterina Mirabelli--are an even better deal.…
