Great music and beer selection. Amsterdam Cafe is a cool gem I found last week. The open window to the street allows for cool people watching and they played fun old school dance music-perfect for those of us who like to boogie to 70's and 80's hip hop. I heard they have techno and rave nights as well. Have to check those nights out. They have so many beers here I wasn't sure where to begin but the bar gets packed and the bartenders are awesome at recommending a beer to your liking. I'll definitely go again, because the DJ was great.

Specialty beer bar with smoking patio in the Polk Loin.. First thing you should know: This is not THAT kind of Amsterdam cafe. It is, however, very much like a European cafe-bar, with its open-to-the-street smoking patio, art gallery/dancefloor in the back and nonchalant, low-key ambiance all around. The Euro-ness continues with a list of more than 100 craft, microbrew and obscure/amazing European beers, mostly by the bottle (think Dogfish Head, Maudite, Urthel and other cult favorites), which are never cheap but are less expensive here than at other specialty beer bars. There's an afterthought menu of wine and champagne, no coffee--this isn't that kind of cafe either--and fried finger foods and sausages to soak up the booze. On weeknights, there'll usually just be a few neighborhood locals and beer connoisseurs chatting, smoking and watching the Tenderloin street show in the front; on weekends, the bar and dancefloor can get packed. Anytime you go, it feels like a cafe in Amsterdam, sans pot smoke, although with the available hookahs you can still get your puff on.
