Downtown kiosk turns out a rotating assortment of goodies.. This former catering-only bakery's first brick-and-mortar location involves neither brick nor mortar; instead the tiny fishbowl-like kiosk at 555 California St. looks something akin to one of those glass money-grabbing booths they use on game shows. Inside it, a patient seller of sweets: a weekly-changing rotation of moist scones, fluffy cupcakes and saucer-sized cookies made in Batter's main kitchen on Folsom. Each of the baked goods are pre-packaged and displayed in glass jars or wicker baskets, making it easy for the local Financial District office crowd to swing by for a coffee cake on the way to work or pop over for a post-lunch cupcake. So while you still can't enjoy a Sand Angel--the bakery's signature salty-sweet, cinnamony cookie--with a coffee on-site, you can at least enjoy one in the comfort of your cubicle now.
