Family of six dined here on a Friday nite. When we sat down to read the menu, we noticed "bread upon request" ... so we asked for bread and after 10 minutes, asked again. A slab of cut bread (6 pieces) arrived with two pieces of very hard butter. We did not have bread dishes so we buttered the bread on our hands. Our orders arrived fairly quickly, dishes not to extremely exciting looking. One family ordered halibut and that's what he got .. a three inch by three inch pile of halibut. No fries, no potatoes, no nothing. A lonely 3 inch pile on the middle of the plate for $25.00.
When our dishes arrived, we asked for more bread. Five minutes later, a slap of bread with 4 pieces arrived.
This overpriced restaurant can surely afford more bread for their patrons, and please add some veggies or potatoes to the lonely halibut.
We will not return to this establishment.
A Scottish pub inside an historic Redwood City landmark.. Irish pubs are a dime a dozen in the United States. Scottish pubs? Not so much, which is why Martins West—named after Martins restaurant in Edinburgh, Scotland—fills a unique niche. Martins West is built inside Redwood City's historic Alhambra Theatre, a 110-year-old building whose exposed-brick walls recount its days as both a Wyatt Earp hangout and a Free Mason meeting spot. The theater's current incarnation is fitting: the rich redwood bar, stately 19th Century pillars, and Scotland-blue walls lend Martins West an air of the Old Kingdom. Behind the bar, Martins stocks a large variety of Scotches, around 30 beers (though only three are from Scotland), a popular list of classic as well as modern cocktails, and a decent wine list. The ambitious menu seeks to introduce American taste buds to the unfamiliar flavors from across the pond—a task that seems difficult with dishes like herbed marrow bones. But for the most part, the menu succeeds. Haggis on a stick, lamb butties, and spiced pork belly are all tasty—so tasty that Martins West might not be the lone Scot in town for long.
