Good decor and nice wine bar. However the wine is terribly overpriced. The food at the bar is really second rate and surprisingly expensive for the value. Actually this is the most over rated restaurant I have been to in SF in the past 20 years. The wine bar menu is modest at best, and really non competitive with other restaurants. The main restaurant s food servings are so petite and precious I thought they were serving a tasting menu . I have tried it now 3 times hopefully thinking it would get better. ..to no avail. Regretfully I will not go back even though I live in the Millennium.

Very chic but quite expensive

We had mixed feelings about the expensive RN74. food was ok, service was ok. Very chic but quite expensive for what you get there.

Decent Michael Minna restaurant

by MelSF , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch

I finally got to go to RN74 last night. I was SO excited.

Décor: The theme is kind of an industrial modern train station. I love love love their wine board. They list specific wines that they are running low on and every time someone orders a bottle, the board switched around. It’s a cute and interesting touch.

Staff: The hostess and waiters were very friendly and knowledgeable. The sommelier made some amazing recommendations based off of the little information we gave him. Some one told him “bring us some interesting wine.” Haha.

Food: I ordered the wild caught whole shrimp. It was served with a vanilla hollandaise sauce. I don’t think my pallet has gotten to the point where I can eat a savory dish with a “dessert” type sauce, so I preferred it without. The shrimp was delicious though a little challenging to get out of the shell. For dinner I ordered the halibut, which was served with onions and asparagus. It was really fresh, simple and yummy!

Overall, a good dining experience, but I wouldn’t rave about it like I do for Baker and Banker. I think this place would be amazing for happy hour, so I may have to come back to check that out.

  • Pros: Decent food, great service, nice decor

Lounge Wins, Dining Room Loses

by mesteves at Citysearch

The place is really nice; great design. Atmosphere is nice. Very large staff, but poor service in dining room. Food was somewhat tasty, but otherwise unimpressive. Both appetizer (soup) and main course (beef) were luke warm at best.

I'm not sure what direct involvement Michael Mina has with this restaurant, other than name.

Wine Bar/Lounge is fantastic, and the menu and food is better than the dining room menu. Wine by the glass selection is incredible (particularly if you like Pinot Noir/Burgundy). Lounge wait staff is great, and very attractive! Great, trendy scene, with attractive clientel as well. Bar manager is excellent.

  • Pros: Great Wine Bar/Lounge
  • Cons: Service and food in dining room are below average
