Gourmet food cart from a top notch chef in SoMa.. Perhaps the city's most refined take on street food, this cart, found in the public atrium of a SoMa high rise, is helmed by Michelin-starred chef Josh Skenes and backed by none other than Michael Mina. The farmers market-fresh, organic, locally sourced sandwiches (e.g. Boccalone charcuterie with gruyere, arugula, quince jam and Calabrian chile; Cowgirl Creamery cheese with grilled rampini, sunburst tomato confit and marjoram), delicately balanced salads and sides hardly resemble street food, but in fact Carte 415 is incredibly convenient and on-the-go-eater friendly. All the foods are pre-prepared and served up faster than a burger at Mickey D's, the atrium it lives in is full of comfortable tables and chairs for lunching, and everything comes neatly packaged in eco-friendly, compostable packaging for those eating on the run; it even takes credit cards. What remains to be seen is how well Carte 415 can do so near to The Sentinel--by overwhelming consensus, the area's favorite takeout lunch spot--but it's already several Culinary Academy grades above any street food in the city.
