Citysearch Editorial Review. Tucked away on one of the few still-gritty blocks of Valencia, La Library recalls the quintessential Parisian boutique, stocked with cheap treasures like silk jacquards and (pricier) vintage jumpers made from hundred-year-old lace collected by owner/designer Shaye la McKenny in the French countryside. Tango music and a silver velvet couch greet women who come to chat and play dress-up in Shaye's one-of-a-kind creations (picture Sienna Miller's offbeat but fashion forward style for reference). The inventory fluctuates, but expect anything from novelty pieces from local designers C.Beaton and Serial Cultura to 19th century Orphism-inspired knits from German designer Skoda. The decor--think saris and necklaces made from quilted Romanian remnants running along the copper piping, ladders clustered with hanging chiffon scarves and rows of broken vintage shoes--is just as funky as the fashion. It feels like a best friend’s closet, and it kind of is; Shaye allows customers to borrow, rent or lease clothing for photo shoots, projects and nights-on-the-town.
Editorial Review. With options to purchase or just rent for an evening, this Mission clothing boutique offers an economical choice for keeping yourself decked in vintage and designer threads.
