Editorial Review for Le Pli Day Spa – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
Cambridge suffers from a dearth of top-flight spas, but Le Pli keeps its clients from crossing the Charles River by virtue of its relaxed setting, expertly rendered services and professional staff. Located in the courtyard of the upscale Charles Hotel, the spa enjoys a steady stream of visiting academics and celebrities, as well as Harvard moms and dads in town for Parents' Weekend. Fluffy terry robes, a calming New-Age soundtrack, soft color schemes and modern, sleek design contribute to a warm, soothing environment.
The Services
While most clients stop in for basic manicures and waxing services, the spa has graced the pages of national magazines because of its hard-to-find, state-of-the-art treatments like glycolic acid facials (great for those with acne or older, sagging skin). The technicians' expertise warrants some of the area's highest prices, but once you give in to a therapeutic hot stone massage, you're likely to forget its $165 price tag.

I have given this spa the benefit of the doubt too many times. The first time I went I had the worst massage in my life, I would have been better off saving my $100 and buying a new outfit. The second time I had a french manicure and pedicure, the woman pricked my finger and had no idea how to get a straight white line. I had to go to the local nail salon around the corner to have my nails fixed. I also went one more time to get a brazilian waxing, when I was done the woman left the room immediately so I looked at m results and there were patches of hair left!!!! My husband bought me a spa package certificate foe Le Pli back in February because he heard it was under new management, dont let this fool you! I called to try and make an appointment the other day and they put me on hold for 15 minutes, once someone finally picked up the phone they were so rude and annoyed with me for wanting to schedule an appointment that they said they would have to call me back later. I gave them my name and phone number and asked if they would be calling back soon and the woman said yes. By 7:30 that night I decided to call them back because I waited for 4 hours, no one answered the phone though they are open until 8pm. I called back the next day and was pretty much reprimanded for seeing if my appointment was valid. The woman on the phone told me that they did call back and no one answered, though I was home all day. I dont know what to do with my $250 certificate because I refuse to ever step foot in that salon for the rest of my life. This is the perfect place to go if you would like to fell unimportant and unrelaxed. I would not recomend this salon to my worst enemy! If you are looking for a excellent salon in the square SASHA on the outskirts of the square on you way toward central square is the best. Every time I call to schedule an appointment they are very helpful and pleasant and when you walk in the door you are greeted by a happy smiling face, its excellent.

i just went back to le pli da spa and had a much better experience. i felt that my aesthetician really put in a lot of effort to make my facial experience a pleasant one. and as mentioned before, their series (sixth facial free) is hard to beat! and this time i wasn't offered bunch of services that cost extra. i guess a lot has changed since at le pli day spa since i went there last fall! (may 30th, 2008) -- (read on for review from fall 2007) i went to le pli day spa twice. one reason for going was because my old spa is on newbury street and didn't want to deal with parking. i also just wanted to try something new. i have two things to say. parking on harvard square can be worse than finding parking on newbury street (bella sante), oddly enough. and it's hard to tell whether the facials really help my skin or not. i definitely think people at le pli are personable. but my old spa had better facilities. and i'm big on spacious, newly modeled spas. also, the first time i went to le pli i wasn't told by the esthetician hardly anything about how i could improve my skin. only by the second time, she said that i needed to moisturize more. i prefer it when i am told/advised about how i can prefer my skin condition. one thing i don't like about my facial experience at le pli day spa is that i am always told about special add on features to my facial that i am told would be really great for my skin. well, if it makes that much of a difference, why don't they just offer that in their facial in the first place? so i usually end up spending 20 dollars more for the featured special add ons to the facial. anywa the spa is decent. i am not sure i would keep going there except that on my first visit i purchased the series of facials that they offer (which makes their facials a great value!). so if you really like your facial at le pli day spa, definitely ask about the facial series that you can buy (you pay for five up front but get six facials!).
Pros: on this side of the river
Cons: your average facial (changed my mind) - personalized experience!
