The food was only ok and the the service was spotty, alternating between overbearingly in my face and absolutely missing in action. It was fine, I guess, but if I had the decision to make over, I would have chosen another restaurant for dinner.
Too business-like!. We were really looking forward to this place - located inside a nice boutique hotel and down near the waterfront. However, we were disappointed with the experience, especially the service. Food was great! The brie appetizer with quince was very good along with our entrees, duck and pork loin. The citrus and berry glaze on the pork loin was very tasty and left a good impression about the food. The restaurant itself was fairly busy, but only seemed to have two people waiting on all of the tables. Very hard to get the waiter's attention. Throughout the night, the waiter was very businesslike and always seemed to be in a hurry - I guess that what seemed to be two people waiting on all of the tables appeared to be true. When we wanted some more bread for the brie, it took numerous tries to make eye contact before we were informed that they ran out of bread. They did give us some pita crisps instead. Also, when it came time to pay, we waited for over ten minutes to get our check, and then another ten minutes to actually have it paid. Overall, good food but tepid service.
Fireplace-smoked meats and house-made pastas compliment the airy Embarcadero view..
In Short
Italian for "red herring," the name carries on the tradition of the location's former expense account dining hall. Its cadence of hearty plates of traditional fare (think rack of lamb, ahi tuna and fettuccini with large prawns) harmonize with an unexpected world beat, including pomegranate sauce, eggplant tapenade and pickled ginger.
Not worth it. For the price, there are much better places to go in this city. The rack of lamb was so undercooked that the waitress noticed and came over to apologize. The desert tasted like it had been bought at safeway and a sauce had been added from a can. Sure, it was sweet, but for a nice dining experience you want more. In addition to the mediocre food, the service was bad from start to end. The hostess looked up from a stack of menus to ask my name, and without saying a word or checking for my reservation went back to organizing. Our waitress kept bringing wrong items to the table, although she was very nice about it. Finally, they refused to accept a gift certificate, claiming their management had changed as of January 1st. They did not make any attempt to honor it or apologize for the confusion.
Slow Service. Took 1 hour 45 minutes for 3 lunch salads and 1 dessert! Not recommended for those on a time schedule.
