Ritual Roasters coffee without the hike to Mission and painfully long lines? This casual Russian Hill cafe is sure to draw crowds with its java-offerings, not to mention the lunch options like salads. Despite being having the perfect conditions for cafe culture--a slow, sleepy pace, and wealthy, intellectual residents with plenty of idle time--Russian Hill has only had two coffee shops, one of them a Starbucks...until now. Crave brings Ritual Roasters Coffee (ranked, along with Blue Bottle and Four Barrel, as the best in the city) to a neighborhood that needed it badly, and another space for locals to blithely peruse the Times and pick at croissants while the rest of the city is at work. They'll have sandwiches too, and from the looks of the big kitchen and liquor license request in the window, have plans to do a lot more--the couple that run it are the owners of Streets restaurant across the way, which has a devoted local following.
