Unusual Thai cuisine for jaded palates.
If you're tired of the same old Pad Thai, give this place a try. We were introduced to Lers Ros by Thai clients, and they didn't steer us wrong. We tried dishes with alligator, venison, frog (whole, not legs!), rabbit and so on. It's all good.
A note about spiciness: some reviewers have indicated that the dishes here are unusually spicy. We didn't find it so, and were able to request certain items be toned down for guests who weren't familiar with Thai cooking.
Be sure to try the whole fried fish - it's outstanding!

Authentic Thai food hidden in plain sight in the Tenderloin..
Underneath the stark, bare-bulb lighting common to both the worst and best restaurants in the Tenderloin, tables full of Thais tuck into plates of garlic frog, fried pork belly and mango trout—the first clue that this isn't some knucklehead noodle house. In fact, since debuting in late '08, chef Tom Silagorn has garnered not only full Thai approval but gushing reviews from local critics for exotic, artfully presented dishes worthy of white tablecloths but mostly costing less than $8. The Thai stuff even Joe the Plumber likes (chicken satay, pad thai, coconut-lemongrass soup) is on the menu, but the chef shines on more ambitious orders (minced pork liver, whole sea bass in spicy-sour soup, garlic and pepper rabbit). Just keep in mind that they'll be served Thai-style, often meaning bone-in and red-hot spicy. Thankfully hidden in plain sight by its nothing-special appearance, Lers Ros is not for everyone, and good thing--any casual passerby looking for average ho-hum Thai food would be disappointed anyway.

Editorial Review.
Open every night until 2am, this simple Thai restaurant makes a convenient late-night bite for Tenderloin locals and those hitting the neighborhood's many bars.
