This eccentric gem at the top of Castro Street mixes art, music, and toys into one tidy business.. What happens when four friends, all with different artistic interests, join forces in entrepreneurship? They create a monster -- Neon Monster, of course. "It's all our favorite stuff," says co-owner Kristy Klinck. While one wall of the store is dedicated entirely to comics (organized by those that came out "this week," "last week," and "recently"), another section finds itself committed to hard-to-find records like Ghostface Killah's "Live in NYC", Frank Zappa's "Waka/Jawaka", or Aretha Franklin's soundtrack to the film Sparkle, produced by Curtis Mayfield. The rest of the store is stocked with trendy toys -- like the urban-vinyl characters by UNKL -- for big kids. Every box, shelf, and rack in the store is on wheels, so expect to see changes upon every visit to this Noe Valley shop.
