Acqua Di Roma is my favorite day spa in the city. They offer things that most days spa's don't. They have a water tank for hydrotherapy as well as many other special rooms. Their main room is inside an old bank vault and is the coolest place to get a facial. I highly reccommend
This Italian concept spa in North Beach combines ancient wisdom and exclusive modern technology..
Acqui di Roma is steeped in Italian history: Partners Gian-Paolo Veronese (grandson of San Francisco's Italian American mayor Joseph Alioto) and Alma Arciengas subscribe to an ancient school of thought that utilizes Hippocrates' morphology principles, but also incorporates cutting-edge biomedicine and technology, such as the infrared sauna. A gorgeous Fresco mural overlooks an antique marble staircase leading to the heart of the spa, which is nestled inside the inside the Barbary Coast building on the border of the Financial District and North Beach. A trickling waterfall, flickering candles, floors fashioned from hemp and cork lead to a dimly lit hallway that reveals each treatment room one at a time, like a primeval underground labyrinth. One of those rooms has a vintage vault for a door--left behind by the space's original tenant, the first Italian bankers of San Francisco. Facials are the specialty of the house: They bestow an instant glow and include generous neck, shoulder and arm massage. There's a no-frills option for gentlemen, as well as an Express quickie for folks on the go.
