Editorial Review for Marche on the Square – by Lorraine Sanders
Envisioned as a culinary hub for upscale groceries and takeaway fare, wine and Dean & Deluca alum Brian Crawford's French-inspired cuisine, Marche is also meant to lure locals back to this uber-touristy area. While reclaimed steel and brick interiors with local artists' work on the walls compliment the establishment's urbane undertakings, fans of truly unusual gustatory pleasures or high-minded gourmet rarities may find themselves disappointed by the noticeably something-for-everyone approach. Others will no doubt find the versatility appealing. Beyond a retail area touting local and imported foods, spreads, oils, sauces, coffee, sushi and deli stations doling out freshly made and pre-prepared on-the-go lunch items, the downstairs dining room, marked on one side by a long bar, and a second, upstairs dining area (currently used for private parties, but slated to become the main dining room) offer jaw-dropping Bay views as a backdrop for classics like duck confit and steak frites paired with sides of mushroom risotto and truffle-creamed spinach.
