The Best of Polks St Bars.
Selfishly I want to rate this place a one start so it doesn't get too crowded... That said, I give a solid 4 stars to McTeagues. The bartenders are always super quick to take drink orders, the bouncers aren't jerks, and the actual bar space is bigger than most of the Polk St bars. For these reasons McTeagues is definitely good enough to make it one of my go to bars!

Surprisingly fun bar!.
Great bar! Great bartenders! I went here with a group of friends (none of us had been here yet), and we had so much fun. We were only going to stop by for a drink on our way to another bar, but ended up staying all night (till they very kindly kicked us out at 2am!) ! Cool, kickback spot, great if you have a big group going out together. They play fun music too!

This cavernous, Western-themed Polk Street saloon is outfitted with turn of the century mining gear, a long happy hour, and a country-music-only jukebox..
As smooth and polished inside as the stretch of Polk outside is gritty and rough, McTeague's pays homage to San Francisco's history as a miner's town, while providing locals with a place to dig into some golden whiskey, beer and Johnny Cash records. The place is barn huge--a point not subtly reiterated by the wagon wheels, horsehoes, and old country music videos playing on the flatscreens--and ropes in patrons with an extra-long happy hour, plenty of booths, low prices on drafts and wells ($4) and a semi-private pool room in back. Expect a friendly, hard-drinking crowd of locals, music from a jukebox (no DJs here) and a goldmine for low-priced, laid-back, gold-digger-free boozing.
