Upscale dining at hole-in-the-wall prices can be found at this downtown lunch spot run by students in the culinary program at CCSF.. If you simply glance into City College's culinary student-run eatery at Fourth and Mission streets, college dining is the last thing that will come to mind. The sparkling corner dining room is elegant and bright, with folded cloth napkins and polished silverware at every place. Forget Top Ramen and Eggo waffles--these college students are whipping up culinary treats like prosciutto-wrapped shrimp salad, red wine-braised lamb and heirloom tomato tartlet. For those with more, shall we say, common tastes, there are always a few traditional favorites: fried chicken, grilled cheese or a bowl of the daily soup. The menu changes regularly, though, so check back often.
