While the uninitiated are likely to opt for the safety of chicken burritos and the crispy, overflowing tostados at this eatery, for years known as the New Central Restaurant, regulars swear by the rotating variety of soups and stews on offer here. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this casual spot located on a somewhat dingy corner in the Mission maintains a certain sense of decorum with white tablecloths, but the interiors are hardly the draw. What the restaurant lacks in ambiance, it makes up for with crowd-pleaser prices, hand made tortillas and signature dishes like posole chocked full of hominy and traditionally prepared birria.
