Excellent crepes and Belgian fries. This little place (formerly Mad Magda's Tea House) has a great assortment of crepes. The savory crepes have been my favorite, although there are plenty of sweet, dessert crepes available, too. The Belgian fries are served in a large paper cone with a variety of delicious sauces (including a lovely sweet ketchup for those who may find a garlic mayonnaise not to be to their taste). The place has been remodeled over the years and the staff is great. Oh, and there are some great Belgian ales and beers offered, too! An excellent gastronomical experience.
Belgian fries with exotic dips are served along with beer, crepes and salads in a quirky boutique-style setting in Hayes Valley..
The informal bohemian ambiance and green backyard nook of the former Frjtz--always more of a draw than the signature Belgian Fries themsleves--has been replaced with the whimsical modernist motif first unveiled at the Valencia Street location.
The all-white interior, faux taxidermy and terrariums full of strange plants built into the walls throughout the labryntine space give it the feel of a Euro-futuristic art gallery, and though fans of the original Frjtz may miss the laid-back-ness of the original location, along with the new decor has come vast improvement in the non-fry cuisine, with customers now coming for the crepes, salads and sandwiches as much as for the fries.
