What Our Expert Scouts Say

March 12, 2013

Kasa's kati rolls are an ideal, filling snack at $4.50 each (it takes a couple for a meal). Kati rolls are classic Indian street food: basically a buttery roti wrap filled tikka masala, veggie specials, lamb curry, or your choice of filling, alongside cucumber raita (yogurt).

Berkeley has Vik's, but we have Kasa. Kati rolls and thali plates with Indian dishes all with fresh, bright flavors. The spicy turkey kebabs are the bomb, and the karahi paneer is also a fave.

Opened my eyes to what Indian food should be. I'm a little obsessed with Kasa...it's that good!

Read about this place in the Chronicle when they first opened, and I've been a loyal convert ever since.

Food is gorgeously balanced in flavor, not nuked with onions, garlic, chilis and food coloring.

Love that they have an open kitchen and you can see them making all their dishes right there in front of you.

Their vegetarian specials are my favorite -- they rotate them every couple days or so. Can't go wrong with them.

Really cool belgian beer on tap, forgot it's name, but it's these little details like cool beers, handwritten chalkboards with daily specials and the warm smile on their servers faces that make me love this place.

Mixed. I've repeatedly had bad experiences with the service of one staff member (the woman with the dreads). I spoke to the owner and hope they act on this feedback.

Citysearch Editorial Review. San Francisco likes Indian food. It loves burritos. So when Kasa came along and rolled up Indian food like a burrito, the city pretty much lost its mind. Kasa's street-food-inspired kati rolls get stuffed with grass-fed lamb curry, free-range chicken and Indian cheese with peppers, onion and chutney, plus sides of raita and garnish salad (the average eater will want two). On the more traditional side, the Thali plate includes all that plus daal and basmati rice, for those who like to roll their own. A short list of two whites, to reds, and two beers selected to pair with the Indian flavor profile keep things simple. There isn't much ambiance to speak of--a taqueria-style counter, stark white walls, a few metal tables--but the place is clean and filled with light. And besides, who needs ambiance with an idea this good?

One word... Amazing!! Kasa Indian Rocks!. I knew from the moment I walked inside Kasa Indian, that I would love it. and I DID! I sat and observed while trying to decide what to order, changing my mind every minute because it all looked so good. I ended up getting a bit of nearly everything on the menu (not hard to do, simple, 8 choices) I loved the chicken tikka masala, lamb curry and karahi paneer. You can get it one of two ways, Kati rolls for handheld eating (1, 2 or 3 to an order... i got 2 different ones) or Thali plates, which are serverd with basmati rice, daal, raita and chutney. All of the dishes were fantastic. They also have imported beers like Kingfisher and Tripel Karmeliet and Indian wine. I am hooked! I can?t wait to go back.
