Great Lounges: Lava Lounge in San Francisco!. Savoury fries topped with truffle oil accompanied by a swig of lichee martini to cleanse the palate. Bartender, one mango mojito for my lady. Multi-colored spectum bar top..lights the way..as we engulf great kobe and peking duck sliders. Enjoying the night as its meant to be... Simple pleasures of life...
Nice service, bad drinks.
My sister had been here for a beer after work and liked it (although she and her friend where the only people there) so we decided to come by on a Saturday before going to some clubs in the area.
Let me first point out that I am not Asian which makes it a bit odd to walk in here, since I was tallest that any of the other 6 people in the bar (it was early). We decided to have a drink and a bite to eat. The food was average at best and the drinks were just BAD (Vodka Tonic was actually Soda water with a splash of vodka, and the Lemon Drop was tasteless).
That said, the service was very good and everyone there was really nice.
I don't think I would go back here.
Lounge gives a lift to both the neighborhood and after-work spirits with drinks and food served late..
In Short
More evidence that SoMa is trying hard to go upscale and trendy: a hipster lounge on the spot of the old Eagle's Drift-in Lounge. With a strict ID-checking policy, it's not so easy to drift through Lava's shiny, chrome-lined doors, but the scene inside (a young after-work crowd sipping cocktails at the lit-up bar) is a little more elegant. Despite the name, the dark woods, clean lines and tiled details make Lava feel decidedly cool.
