Italian wine and small plates in the Lower Haight.. A cigarette flick away from a biker bar, sniffing distance from a barbeque joint and across the street from a tattoo parlor, this wine-and-small-plates bar is a dapper exchange student in the Lower Haight mosh pit, but it holds its own. The crisp white interior and bourgeoise-chic clientele are a sophisticated respite from the partly-gentrified, but still authentically gritty street outside, and the young, hip and friendly waitstaff know better than to be pretentious. The all-Italian wine list is deep but accessible, and the menu of charcuterie/artisinal cheese/panini is authentic to what you'd find in a modern small plates bar in Italy. Wisely, however, Uva doesn't ignore the neighborhood ethos, offering pizza, anti-pasti, and imported beers and wine at happy hour for shockingly low prices--in fact, a lot lower than nearby dive bars, without any of the the punk 'tude.

A very classy wine bar restaurant. What a great find! It is a classy find in the Lower Haight. They have a great wine list and the food is great. The staff is very accomodating.
