The quarters may be cramped, but that just amplifies the cozy bistro atmosphere. Definitely the closest to Paris you'll get in the boundaries of SF.
Cozy & French.
Cozy little neighborhood spot. French cuisine (and French service -- just fair, no hate comments please). Great place for a quiet date, very romantic, soft lighting.
- Heirloom tomato soup was yummy
- Goat cheese crostini with baked apple would have been better with crispy apples, but still good.
- Mushroom risotto was the only thing vegetarian on the menu and I was fine with that. It was terrific, but making out after dinner is prohibited after all those truffles.
- Very few wines by the glass, but the ones I tried were very good.
Doubt I will make another trip -- but I definitely recommend it.
A cozy French bistro in Noe Valley serving up daily specials of traditional French cuisine..
In Short
Tucked away on a tree-lined corner of Noe Valley is this restaurant no bigger than a cafe. Waiters in suits mill about the rustic interior, which is filled with whimsical lamps, dark draperies and seating in full-table setting. Displayed wines are the focus as well as the chalkboard--the restaurant's namesake--which can be filled with specials or silly sayings. The meal choices offer just a handful of appetizers, entrees and sides yet pack a powerful punch with options such as escargots in garlic parsley sauce or almond-crusted barramundi with trumpet mushroom in a lobster reduction.
